More Desperate Sketches

bag of pretzels

Here are a couple more sketches that I did when I was "desperate" for reference material. I loved sketching the pretzel bag. I focused on capturing the essence of the fold and crinkles instead of replicating them exactly. I definitely felt the flow on this one.

The pen was finished up while I had the company of one of my kids. I think that is why it is a little stiffer than the other sketch. I was torn between finishing my sketch and talking to my child. I tried to do both and as a result probably didn't do either one well.

I seem to be in a phase right now where I am trying to do a little bit of everything and not getting much of anything done. My productivity has been pathetic compared to all I accomplished in March and April. I often seem to have an unproductive phase right after I meet a bunch of deadlines. Even though I know this is my pattern, I still find it annoying.

And it has been going on long enough. This week I am going to get back on track. I have a deadline on Sunday that I will meet. I am also going to set aside one afternoon or evening to find references for my next project and start some thumbnail sketches. I am making this commitment in front of you, my readers, with the hope that you will keep me honest. If I don't show up in the next week talking about new stuff, leave a comment directing me back here. In return, I will perform the same service for you should you ever need it. Do we have a deal?

We have a deal. I'm in a bit of a funk myself. And I always compound the funk with being annoyed that funks happen.

Hope you get the evening! Off to animals...:D

Stacy, I have been terrible about reading blogs lately becasue of lack of time, but I read you so well on trying to accomplish several things at the same time and not getting anywhere. A reminder will be good.

Nice sketches, and I agree about the bag, it is relaxed and free.:)

Time is always a challenge, but we always find time to do the things we really love, no matter how loud the other voices are.

You'll fit it all in. :)

Hi Stacy,

Wow do I know how you feel. I actually started my own blog this weekend because of that very thing. A year ago I was forced to get a regular job. I have not done a single piece of art or writing since the day I started.

So, I am taking you up on that deal. Because, in all honesty, I might need a swift kick myself to keep going with my projects.

I love your work, this is the first time I have surfed into your blog, but it will not be the last. :)

I'll be back soon.

Can I tell you all how great it feels to come here and read your comments and know you understand! Thank you for that!

Rose, wouldn't you think that getting annoyed would help us get out of the funk instead of compounding it? It's a real shame that it doesn't work that way.

Nice to see you Mary! I know I could have more time if I chose to give something up, but I'm stubborn and keep thinking I can do it all. :D If I ever figure out how, I'll let you know.

Jeanette, you are so right. And I did manage some art time today. Unfortunately I may have to erase some of what I did because Tripod is looking rather chubby in the face.

Hi Michael! Nice to meet you. I am glad you surfed your way in here. I can only imagine how you must feel having not created any art in the last year. I know for me, the longer I go without picking up a pencil or brush the harder it is to make myself start again. But having a blog is good motivation because you know people out there are waiting to see something new. Now I'll be checking out your blog and waiting to see some new work. No pressure, just a friendly shove. ;)
