A Mountain of Color

 watercolor sketch approx. 1"x5"
copyright 2009 Stacy L. Rowan

Here is a quick sketch that I did a few weeks ago while sitting at soccer practice. The mountains in the distance were a beautiful mix of fall colors set against a blue sky. I was happy that I was able to capture this fleeting view in my sketchbook. And I managed to do it without getting any paint on me. Although I did spill some water on my coat when the soccer ball suddenly shot in my direction. Maybe that's one reason I've never seen anyone else sketching at soccer. It's a bit riskier than sketching in other places.

very pretty fall colours :D hmm probably the same reason people don't sketch at a hockey game ;)

Thanks Jennifer! And good point, I think I'll leave my sketchbook at home the next time I go watch a hockey game. ;)

Ronelle, I agree - art is risky business whether undertaken at a soccer game or from the comforts of our own home!

You captured those wonderful fall colours with that one.
I am glad you didn't get bopped with a soccer ball.
I suppose there can be hazards anywhere when outside sketching. I caught a seagull's poop in my hair once. Needless to say, I was glad to get home to a shower.
Maybe we should sketch wearing masks and hats.

Thanks MJ! While painting I had visions of getting bopped in the head and the paintbrush making a huge smear across the page. Luckily that vision didn't come true!

As for the bird poop, I've heard people say that is supposed to be good luck. Not sure why since it sure wouldn't feel very lucky. ;)
