6" x 4" watercolor on paper
Stacy L. Rowan
Here is my entry for this month's Virtual Sketch Date.
Viweing the reference, I was excited by all the colors I saw in the shadows on the white tray and in the cloth under the tray. I knew right away that watercolor was my choice for the month.
Unfortunately I chose to work on a strange paper. The paper forced me to change the brushes I normally use and to come up with a new plan for getting those beautiful colors down. So the final painting doesn't look exactly how I expected, but overall I am pleased with this colorful crowd of pears.

I love the colours you chose...
Funny how these challenges teach us so much more by forcing us out of our comfort zone. Thumbs up for a great result!
Your shadows are wonderful. I love that reflected touch of green.
Stacy these are lovely. I noticed the colours in the shadows too, but only after I had looked Really Hard! So I learned something this month. All you watercolourists make my fingers itch and twitch to get going....
You did a great job getting all the colours onto paper :D
Very serene, Stacy.
You make watercolor appear to be easy to do.
I particularly like the right hand pear.
Pears and watercolour seem to go together well don't they? You've done a lovely job on this one. The shadows especially really glow.
Lovely work Stacy. I love the subtle complementaries and the sure modelling of forms. Your title 'colorful crowd' made me smile... that would be in the three's-a sense? It gives the pears an attitude.
Hi Stacy, although colourful this is a really light and fresh painting too I thought, the pears and purple go together so well.
Hi Stacey - great work again this month! Always enjoy seeing your blog!
Your watercolor turned out very well, even with the new paper. Great colors too!
Your pears are lovely stacy. I like the way you used blues in the painting. You have a way with watercolours.
PS I managed to do the pears this time around.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments!
Leslie, I had to chuckle at your comment that I make watercolor look easy to do. You would have changed you mind if you had been watching me paint and hearing me grumble about the paper. :D
Vivienne - yes, you got my reference in the title! It's for the old "three's a crowd" saying, because they sit so close together on the tray. The narrow negative spaces create a bit of tension in the piece.
Stacy you do make watercolor look easy. These pears are lucky to have had their portraits painted by you.
It seems so light and just right for a pick nick. Very inviting watercolor.
Stacy thank for pointing the use of straight lines vs curved lines. If you had not mentioned this contrast, I would not be questioning myself right now. Thank-you so much for your kind words.

It's a very very nice watercolor. Beautiful colors! Thank you so much for coming on my blog and commenting about my pears as well.
Very nice Stacy. Such nice shadows and the folds are great.
Stacy, great painting, I expect this quality of work from you, And I know how hard you work painting. I have seen you paint.
Love Dad
Beautiful work!
Love the colours and the overall soft feel to it.
Thanks everyone!
Dad, I have to work hard so I can try to get as good as you.
