I always feel so good after a VSD post! :D

For those who liked the charcoal WIP, I promise to pick it up again one day soon.

Like Jan, my favorite was the line drawing because of its simplicity and because it captured my first impressions of the reference.

I enjoyed working with a limited palette for the watercolor and will definitely be trying that again. Anita, the quinacridones are some of my favorites too! I use them a lot.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to give feedback. And I agree, the bright/dappled sunlight makes it hard to initially distinguish the dimensions and form of the tree trunk.
I like all three versions, but am partial to the water color. But you...Thanks for posting your creative process. But you know, I like the line drawing. Simplicity at its best. You know it's a tree with a few leaves. So the viewer is left to decide if the leaves are red or yellow, if it's a windy day or the sky is blue. I like the watercolor version too. Nice strong vertical element contracted with the horizontal nature of the yellow leaves.Jan Popehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08310486100900772714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4710395967782423014.post-38582061693677129362008-11-23T09:15:00.001-05:002008-11-23T09:15:00.001-05:00Hi Stacy, the watercolour is great with it's cropp...Hi Stacy, the watercolour is great with it's cropped composition and the shadows on the bark work very well. I've learned that "jumping in" lesson before, but apparently it was time to learn it again. :D

Regina, I'm normally impressed when people give the reference more than one try too, but in my case this month it feels like it was more a symptom of slacking.
